This is where it begun: I inherited from my mother a huge amount of bobbins - mostly plastic ones. Some of them do not have much yarn left. But nothing can be thrown away...

To save the yarn, I took a piece of brown paper, around which I rolled it.
Säästääkseni langan, otin palan ruskeaa paperia, jonka ympärille kieputin sen.
How to begin: roll the paper and put the yarn between. (bad pic, sorry...)
Aloita näin: rullaa paperi ja laita lanka väliin. (huono kuva, sorry...)
When you have all the yarn around the paper, cut a slit to the paper roll, where to put the end of the yarn.
Kun kaikki lanka on rullalla, leikkaa paperirullaan halkio, mihin saa laitettua langan pään.
So you will get cute little yarn rolls to use in your crafting: cards, art journal, mixed media... Of course you can also use the yarn for stiching, if needed...
Näin sinulla on söpöjä pikku lankarullia askarteluun: kortteihin, art journaliin, sekatekniikoihin... tietysti voit käyttää langat ompeluunkin...
And back to the topic: Now we have empty plastic bobbins. First I sandpapered them a bit. And then I covered them with a couple of layers of gesso.
Takaisin asiaan: Nyt meillä on tyhjiä muovirullia. Ensin hankasin niitä hieman hiekkapaperilla. Sitten sivelin pari kerrosta gessoa.
After the gesso has dried, I coloured the bobbin with Distress inks, sprayed fixative on it and covered it with decoupage lacquer to seal the colour. You can also use acrylic paints.
Labels are from old bobbins. I scanned and printed and cut out them and glued on the bobbin.
Kun gesso oli kuivaa, väritin rullan Distress inkillä, suihkautin fiksatiivia ja laitoin vielä päälle decoupage lakkaa suojaamaan väriä. Voit käyttää myös akryylimaaleja.
Merkit on vanhoista lankarullista. Skannasin, printtasin ja leikkasin ne ja liimasin rullaan.
Then I made the ribbon. The light blue ribbon was not wide enough, so I machine stitched (with zig-zag) two ribbons together.
The text and image are printed with ink jet printer on white ribbon. They are then hand stiched on the blue ribbon. Be sure, that the bottom (blue) ribbon is long enough to go round the bobbin first!
Now you will need a stripe of fabric to cover the back side of the hand stitched area. I machine stiched it and put narrow satin ribbons between the back stripe and the blue ribbon. You need these satin (or other) ribbons to tie the whole ribbon around the bobbin.
Sitten valmistin nauhan. Vaalean sininen nauha ei ollut tarpeeksi leveää, joten ompelin koneella (sik-sakilla) kaksi nauhaa yhteen.
Teksti ja kuvat on printattu mustesuihkutulostimella valkoiselle nauhalle. Ne on ommeltu käsin kiinni siniseen nauhaan. Varmista, että pohjanauha (sininen) on tarpeeksi pitkä ylettyäkseen ensin rullan ympäri!
Nyt tarvitset kangassuikaleen peittämään käsin ommellun alueen takapuolen. Sen ompelin kiinni koneella ja laitoin samalla takakankaan ja sinisen pohjanauhan väliin ohuet satiininauhat. Niitä tarvitaan sitomaan koko nauha rullan ympärille.
Now, when the bobbin and the stripe are both finnished, you can glue the stripe around the bobbin. I used Plastic Padding Repair Extreme -glue.
Nyt, kun sekä rulla että nauha ovat valmiina, voit liimata nauhan rullan ympärille. Minä käytin Plastic Padding Repair Extreme -liimaa.
And when the glue has dried, you can tie the ribbon around the bobbin and you have a nice message to your friend!
